Your Carlo membership
How the free trial works, what a membership costs, how one subscription covers a shared space, and how to manage or cancel.
Carlo is free for your first 30 days — the whole app, every feature, no card required. Nothing to enter up front, nothing to cancel if you decide it isn't for you. The trial starts the day you create your account and runs on your account itself, not on your phone, so reinstalling the app or switching devices doesn't start it over or cut it short.
After the trial, a membership is $9 a month or $79 a year — the annual works out to about a third off. Both give you exactly the same Carlo; the only difference is how often you're billed. Prices shown in the app are always the real ones from the App Store or Google Play in your local currency.
One membership covers your whole shared space. If you use CoCarlo, a single active subscription covers everyone in that space — up to 8 members. Only one person needs to subscribe; everybody else just uses Carlo. Nobody else has to enter a card, and no one is billed twice for the same space.
If the person who subscribes stops — their membership lapses, or they leave the space — the space is no longer covered, and the others will be asked to subscribe. Nothing is deleted. Every transaction, photo, and journal entry stays exactly where it is, still encrypted, and comes straight back when someone subscribes again. And your own 30-day trial is always yours: joining or leaving a shared space never shortens it, so if you're still inside your first 30 days you keep working normally either way.
To see where you stand, open the More menu (☰, top-left) → Membership. During the trial it shows how many days are left. Once you've subscribed it shows your plan and the date it renews. If you're covered by someone else's membership it tells you that instead — there's nothing for you to pay or manage. You can open this screen any time.
Changing or cancelling is handled by Apple or Google, not by Carlo — that's how app subscriptions work everywhere. On Membership the button names the store that has your subscription — Manage in App Store or Manage in Google Play — and takes you straight there. If you cancel, you keep everything until the end of the period you already paid for, and it simply doesn't renew after that. One thing worth knowing on Android: Google Play opens under whichever Google account your phone is signed into, so if you don't see Carlo listed, switch to the account you installed it with — your Carlo login and your Google account don't have to be the same.
If you've subscribed before — on another phone, or after a reinstall — tap Restore purchases. You'll find it on the Membership screen whenever you're not currently showing as a member, which is exactly when it's useful. It asks the App Store or Google Play what you already own and reconnects it. It costs nothing and never charges you twice.
Your data is always yours. If a membership lapses, nothing is deleted — everything stays exactly where it is, still encrypted, still yours. You can export a full copy of your data at any time, membership or not.
A few practical details. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google, so Carlo never sees or stores your card details. Buying on iPhone and buying on Android are separate purchases through separate stores, so if you use both, subscribe on the one you use most. A shared space holds up to 8 members and one membership covers all of them. And cancelling a membership does not delete your account or your data — that is a separate action, covered in Delete your account.
You can check your trial, subscribe, restore a purchase, or cancel from More → Membership at any time.
