Export your data

A portable copy of the space you are in, as a spreadsheet or a zip. A restorable System Backup is separate.

Open the More menu from the tray, tap Settings, then Data & Records. Under Export this space are three exports: Transactions, a CSV spreadsheet; Journal, a CSV of your daily entries; and Photos, a zip of your images plus an index. Each covers whatever space you are currently in.

Tap the one you want. Carlo confirms with Face ID or your device passcode first, the same re-check as viewing your recovery code, because a decrypted copy of your data is the most sensitive thing that can leave the app. Then choose where to save or share it.

The CSVs open in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets. Transactions gives you a row per transaction with date, amount, type, category, subcategory, account, payee and note. Journal gives a row per day you wrote something; days with only photos are not in it, since those are in the Photos export. The Photos zip holds an images/ folder of decrypted JPEGs named by date, plus a photos.csv index of each photo's date, entry and caption.

The important distinction: these three are portable records for reading, analysis, taxes, or simply keeping your own copy. None of them can be brought back into Carlo. System Backup, under Personal backup on the same screen, is the other kind: a complete, restorable archive of your Personal account, and the only export you can restore from.

Everything encrypted is decrypted in these files, so amounts, payees, notes, category names and journal entries are all readable. Treat them like a financial statement and store them somewhere secure. They also include all history for that space rather than just the current month, and there are no scheduled automatic exports, so run them whenever you want a snapshot.

In a shared space the three exports cover that space, and each file gains a member column showing who logged what, with the confirmation reminding you the file may include other members' data. System Backup is hidden in a shared space, deliberately: a shared space is not restored from a backup but recovered with your recovery code or a member's approval. Exports always follow the space you are in, and the Shared space tag under your email on the More screen tells you which that is.
