Delete your account

What deleting your account removes, what stays behind in shared spaces, and why it can't be undone.

Deleting your account is immediate and irreversible. It isn't a deactivation or a grace period — there is no window in which you can change your mind and sign back in. Once it's done, Carlo has no way to restore your account, and neither do you.

Deletion removes everything tied to you: every transaction, bill, budget, goal, category, and journal entry; every photo you've attached, deleted from storage rather than just unlinked; your encryption key; and the login itself, so the email or Google or Apple account you signed in with is no longer connected to Carlo.

Export anything you want to keep first. Once your account is gone there is nothing left to export from — a backup file you saved beforehand is the only copy that survives. Open the More menu (☰, top-left) → Settings → Data & Records → Export your data before you begin.

If you share a space with someone, you'll need to leave it first. The delete screen lists every shared space you're in and walks you through them one at a time. For each one you either leave it — which you can do whenever at least one other member remains — or, if you're the last member, delete the space itself. The "Continue deleting account" button stays disabled until none are left, so you can't accidentally strand a space that someone else is still using.

What you wrote in a shared space stays there. When you leave a space, the entries you added remain so the space's history stays accurate for the people still using it — your name comes off them and they simply show as from a former member. This is deliberate: a shared budget that quietly lost half its transactions when someone left would be worse than one that keeps them. Your own personal Carlo, and everything in it, is deleted entirely.

Backups take a little longer to catch up. When you delete your Carlo account, your data is deleted from our active systems. Some database data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 7 days, after which those backups expire. Those backups are not reachable through the app or by Carlo support; they exist only so the service could be restored after a catastrophic failure.

To begin, open the More menu from the tray, tap Settings, then Account, and find Delete your account pinned at the bottom.

Two things to know before you start. Deleting your account is not the same as cancelling a membership, and cancelling a membership does not delete anything — see Your Carlo membership. And if you have connected a bank, Carlo asks you to disconnect it first before it can delete the account; disconnecting ends Carlo's access at your bank and removes the stored connection.

Once deletion completes you'll be signed out, and the account and its data are gone for good.
