The monthly review

When a month ends, a card appears in your Journal titled "{Month} in Review" with Close out this month underneath it. Tap the card to begin. If you started and stepped away it reads Finish your month instead and picks up where you stopped, and the card waits for you all month, clearing only when the next one ends. The best time is the first weekend of the new month, once everything has settled.

The first screen says "{Month} is over." Tap Begin and Carlo works out the numbers, then takes you straight to the allocation.

Then Allocate, which is the part that matters. Carlo shows what your spending money came to and lets you direct it toward your goals and annual categories: type an amount next to each. Assign everything and you will see Fully allocated ✓ with a Confirm button; leave some behind and it reads Let go of $X & finish. Either way one tap closes the month. If you spent everything, or have no goals or annual categories yet, there is nothing to allocate and you get a single Close the month button.

That leftover figure is your discretionary monthly budget minus what you actually spent, the same number the Budget screen showed as "left" all month. Bills, year-category set-asides and goal contributions you already made are not part of it, because close-out is only about sweeping the spending money you did not use. And it is a budget calculation rather than a look at your bank account, since Carlo cannot see your accounts. If some of it is not really there to move, allocate what is and let go of the rest. Nothing carries forward; it closes out with the month.

Then the month itself: your photos across the top, the dates, what you spent, and what you had left over to reallocate. There is nothing to pick — the pictures are the moments you marked during that month's weekly reviews, so the choosing already happened. Tap any photo to see it full screen, or hold one to zoom in.

Below that, What stood out gathers those marked moments week by week. Each week is closed until you tap it, so a heavy month does not bury everything underneath. Tapping a row opens that purchase.

Last are two questions, the same pair the weekly review asks: What did you notice this month? and For next month. Tap the words and write; Carlo saves when you tap away. Leave either blank and tap Done to finish without writing.

You do not have to do all of this in one sitting. Finish later steps you out at any point, and where you are decides what happens. Before you tap that final Confirm, nothing has been saved and Carlo recalculates fresh when you return. After it, the month is closed, and if you reach the review but are not ready to write, Carlo keeps what you typed and the card reads Continue your Monthly Review until you finish.

The finished month becomes a card in your Journal, and tapping it reopens the same page — your photos, what you spent, what stood out, and what you wrote, with that month's weekly reflections gathered at the bottom. To change what you wrote, tap the words themselves; they become editable where they sit and save when you tap away. No Edit button and nothing to confirm.
